A SYMBOL OF PARIS
Являясь одним из самых популярных мест в мире, Эйфелева башня ежегодно привлекает сотни тысяч туристов. В 2002 году это сооружение приняло двухсотмиллионного гостя. Расположенный на Марсовом поле у реки Сены, он позволяет посетителям подняться на вершину и полюбоваться захватывающим видом на Париж.
Башня была источником вдохновения французского инженера Гюстава Эйфеля. Будучи очень известной личностью в свое время, Эйфель также выполнил важную работу по внутренней структуре другого знаменитого памятника — Статуи Свободы в США. Работы над Эйфелевой башней начались в 1887 году и продолжались до 1889 года, когда здание было открыто для публики во время Всемирной выставки в Париже. Вплоть до 1930 года и строительства небоскреба Крайслер-билдинг в Нью-Йорке башня оставалась самым высоким сооружением в мире.
Многие люди, особенно художники, критиковали это сооружение, говоря, что оно не вписывается в красоту Парижа.
